Information and Privacy Branch

The Information and Privacy Branch provides freedom of information and protection of privacy advice to the ministry and agencies, boards and commissions associated with the ministry. It also assists ministry divisions and branches with the implementation of the standard government records management system used to classify, store, and dispose of all records.

Major Responsibilities:

The Branch is responsible for managing all recorded information resources within the ministry, ensuring compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP); the Document Disposal Act; Government Management Operating Policy and associated central agency and ministry policy and procedures. This includes:

  • Receiving and processing requests for records in accordance with the FOIPP Act.
  • Providing advisory services on information access and the protection of privacy to senior management.
  • Coordinating the development of Operational Records Classification Systems (ORCS) for all ministry programs.
  • Coordinating the implementation of the Administrative Records Classification System (ARCS) and Operational Records Classification Systems (ORCS) throughout the ministry.
  • Exercising signing authority for applications for storage disposal or transfer of custody of ministry program records.
  • Developing, coordinating and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Delivering related training programs throughout the ministry.
