Assessments

Employers’ assessments fund the compensation system.  WorkSafeBC classifies your business operation and applies a premium rate which, along with your payroll, is used to calculate your premiums owning.  Employers may have concerns with:

  • when to register
  • coverage for sole proprietors/unincorporated partners
  • homeowners (may be employers)
  • dealing with contractors
  • appropriate classification
  • reporting your payroll
  • penalties
  • audits
  • collections

If you disagree with an Assessment decision, you may ask for a:

  • Reconsideration within 75 days from the date of the decision or
  • Review within 90 days from the date of the decision.
  • In some cases, a further appeal may be filed within 30 days of the Review Division decision to the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal.
