This seminar will provide Employers with information regarding when accident/incident investigations are required and how to conduct these types of investigations. Topics covered include WorkSafeBC law and regulation regarding accident/incident investigations, a practical guide to investigating accident/incidents, and why thorough accident investigations are important. This course is ideal for Employers, Managers, Supervisors and members of the Joint OHS Committee who conduct or are involved in accident/incident investigations at the workplace.

This seminar will provide employers with information on the Assessment related topics under the WorkSafeBC. Topics include a brief overview of relevant board, law and policy in the area of Assessments, review of when registration is required under the system, discussion on residential employers, Personal Optional Protection (POP), contractor liability (i.e. Section 51), clearance letters, collections, audits, penalties and the appeal process. Participants will also learn how assessment rates are determined (i.e. Classification system, Rate Making System and Experience Rating Programs), what constitutes assessable payroll, remittance requirements and how to utilize the ER Calculator.

Claims Management Module 1 - Introduction

INTRODUCTION - This seminar provides participants with a brief overview of the workers' compensation system. Employers will receive information on some of the law and policies associated with the adjudication and management of claims by WorkSafeBC. Other topics covered include: initial notification, reporting procedures, investigation requirements and how to identify and deal with claims issues. In addition, this module will review some of the recent changes in the processing of claims at WorkSafeBC introduced by WorkSafeBC's online Claims Management Solutions (CMS).

Claims Management Module 2 - Stay at Work/Return to Work

STAY AT WORK/RETURN TO WORK - This seminar focuses on Stay at Work and Return to Work programs. Employers will receive information on developing an effective Stay at Work/Return to Work program. Topics covered include; benefits of having a program, review of the basic elements of a program, developing a return to work plan, outline of the return to work process, evaluating the program, and identifying the appropriate law & policy/practices that are applicable. Promoting stay at work/return to work is beneficial for both the worker and employers.
NOTE: We recommend that participants complete Module 1 prior to registering for Module 2.

PREPARING A WRITTEN SUBMISSION -This seminar will assist participants to prepare a written submission for a review or appeal and will provide a better understanding of the review and appeal process in claims related matters. Topics include: understanding the legislation pertaining to reviews and appeals, what decisions can be reviewed or appealed, who can participate, time limits, etc. Participants will be asked to read & participate in a case study/class discussion based on a sample file disclosure to aid in understanding how to prepare a written submission.

The session will address the following topics: outline the oral hearing process, overview of the legislation pertaining to reviews and appeals, gathering evidence, types of questions to ask witnesses, preparing witnesses, preparing closing arguments, etc.

Part 3 of the Workers' Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations impose many duties, responsibilities and requirements primarily for the employer. This seminar is designed to assist employers in understanding the legislative requirements of Part 3 of the Act. The course will also highlight key regulatory requirements found in the Core Requirements (Parts 1-4) of Occupational Health and Safety Regulation. In addition, this seminar will explain all the components of a formal safety program as required by the Regulation.
This seminar is intended for employers, but would also be of value to Human Resource Personnel, Supervisors, Managers, Safety Committee Members, Safety Coordinators, and First Aid Attendants with safety responsibilities.
