Labour provides services to workers, employers, unions, and businesses in British Columbia to support an effective and safe work environment;
Citizens’ Services provide a key role in improving how government services and information are delivered to meet the needs of citizens, businesses and the public sector.
The ministry will continue to plan and implement information management and information technology projects that improve the value of information and services to citizens, businesses and the public sector using the following strategies:
- Increase emphasis on aligning strategic information management and information technology solutions with ministry Service Plan objectives.
- Continue to provide customers and stakeholders with greater self-service capabilities using electronic channels.
- Continue to implement effective privacy and security policies to preserve and protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of personal and sensitive information.
- Increase collaboration through the secure integration of authorized information across aligned ministries, government, the broader public sector and businesses.
- Improve internal operational efficiency and decision making.
Information management projects or service enhancements planned include:
- Integrated Channel Management: Expand and improve on the capabilities of the ministry to deliver citizen services through all channels (e.g. telephone, Internet, over-the counter).
- Provincial Identity Management Framework: Partner in the creation of an identity management framework for government and the broader public sector that will permit authenticated and authorized users access to information enabling better service to the public.
- Network BC: C ontinue to expand high speed telecommunications to British Columbia communities by putting in place affordable robust networks for First Nations communities.
- Information Management Governance: Implement a governance framework to support the alignment of ministries’ information management and information technology.
- Information Integration: Partner with ministries to promote the secure integration of authorized information to enable better service to the public.
- eProcurement: This multi-year cross government initiative provides integrated corporate solutions that support the full procurement-to-payment business cycle. Primary focus this year will be the implementation of the contract management component for ministries. A “Purchasing Card” initiative is also underway to support this initiative.
- Reporting and Information Strategy: This is a comprehensive approach to enhancing the information available to Corporate Accounting Services clients and customers. Projects under way to support this initiative are: Financial Forecasting and Budgeting Assessment, Management and Executive Financial Reporting, and Role Based Reporting.
- Business Transformation : To improve accountability and integrated business processes supporting information management systems and client-centred services.
- Systems Enhancements: Upgrades are planned for several case management systems in Labour to improve the quality and timeliness of services provided to citizens; and to improve internal performance management.
